ONE SHOTS

MIXED VEG

This was a comic book I wrote and illustrated for a zine about life in Walthamstow. It’s based on a real conversation I had whilst working at The Victoria, my first bar job which I made a documentary about which you can watch here. It’s pretty much verbatim of the original conversation, only I have replaced myself with the half-man-half-lobster Big Brannigan, the mascot for my band. The reason I did this is because a lot of our songs are about weird customers we’ve encountered working in hospitality, and I feel like this is almost one of our songs just in comic form.

HAEMOGLOBIN MAN

This one is also based on a real interaction, between my band’s guitarist and our friend Simon, whom we call Haemoglobin Man, and already wrote a song about. He’s got a high haemoglobin count and insists he never runs out of breath. We’d already written the song about him when this interaction happened. Funnily Simon appeared in the “Unaired Pilot” of The ‘Stew, which you can watch here.

ESPIONAGE BAGUETTE

Espionage Baguette is also related to The Untitled Band Project, it’s one of the names we played under. I loved the poster I drew for that gig so much I decided to expand upon it with this little comic…

A COMIC ABOUT MATTRESSES

This one was supposed to be for the same zine that I made “Mixed Veg” for but unfortunately they shut down publishing before this ever made it to paper. Is just a joke about how you see mattresses fly tipped on every road in Walthamstow. I thought I’d play on the tropes of a Zombie horror movie, with a quote from Aliens in there for good measure. This also features the highly controversial Walthamstow Towers prominently in the background. That is to say that it’s basically just a big inside joke for E17 residents…
